Current Projects
Chronic coastal flooding
As sea levels rise, coastal communities are increasingly experiencing flooding from high tides and routine rainstorms. We’re investigating the causes and impacts of these recurrent events in a range of North Carolina communities.

Managing land use for climate change adaptation
We can reduce losses from extreme weather events by limiting development in hazardous places, but instead we’ve been putting more and more in harm’s way. What strategies can we use to reduce climate risk through land use? We’re mapping floodplain development patterns across the US to identify success stories and promote climate-friendly land use.
Climate change and migration
People will be on the move in a changing climate. Who moves, and how does migration affect different aspects of their wellbeing? How is migration affected by acute events, chronic hazards, and their combination? Using a high-resolution migration dataset, we’re exploring these questions in relation to a range of climate hazards and events.
